Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's efforts to achieve popular recognition were unsuccessful. Prior to any new music could be released the two major labels had signed and were able to drop Perry. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which garnered modest attention in 2007 because of its humorous title. Perry made more of a splash several months later with the track I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to the fascination of sexuality accompanied by a sharp electronic-pop beat. The song caused controversy with some critics accusing it of promoting the same-sex relationship and others saying that the sexually explicit scenario depicted was designed to cater to male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl, an enthralling combination of sexual satire with a sophisticated melody, helped I Kissed a Girl to be a top-rated hit in a variety of countries, and to drive the sales of her album, One of the Boys. The sharp, bouncey second track was well-loved. The album that Perry wrote in large part sold over three million copies.
