Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She became a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988, she became chief congressional reporter. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel at 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards in journalism, among them the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell began covering for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a range of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal and went on numerous trips along with the President Reagan to meetings alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
